Well, as we all know the COVID-19 Coronavirus has taken over the world and is very dangerous. Millions of people have gotten sick and many have even died. Due to the severity of this virus, a “stay at home” quarantine has been issued in Chicago. This first began on 3/14/2020 for two weeks until 3/28. Once we got close enough to that date, the stay at home was extended until April 30th, which is where it stands now. I imagine it will continue to be extended for at least another month, if not longer… I have not been to work since March 16, but am still working and have actually been even busier than usual with work at home since nearly everything now relies on marketing & social media. The big change for me personally is that I save around 3 hours per day by not driving, and save an additional 2 hours per day by not coaching. Now I get to spend plenty of time with Rachel (and Beth) which is always awesome. This is probably the most extra time I have had during a spring since 2001 (before lacrosse)… anyways, here are some of the things I did between March 14th to April 14th when “locked up.”

Stats taken for 22 games: I spent a lot of time during the first two weeks of quarantine taking stats on all 2017 Cats lax games. We had used Krossover that year for stats and they were not “Maluta Approved” accurate enough. Now I have official stats for the Neuqua lacrosse team from 2016-2019. I have been working on compiling career stats for each player, game records and season records for each category much like a college team. I even put together an All-Time Results vs Opponent for the 20-year program history. You can see all the stats and stay updated on the Neuqua Valley team here. It is still a work in progress. Unfortunately it seems like the 2020 season is not going to happen. I feel for all the players, but especially the seniors.
TV Shows Watched: Tiger King, Ozark Season 3, Arrested Development - Still not a lot of TV watching for me.
Exercise: I have been running a lot of miles, doing body weight exercises like pushups, squats and crunches. By far the most exercise I’ve done in years. Like I said, 3 hours a day back in my pocket by not driving, so a lot of extra time to get in shape. In case you did not know, I am on a mission for 20,000 pushups in 2020. It’s not too late to join in…
Zoom Video Calls: Although I have been on less video calls than I actually thought I would have been on, video chats are the new best thing to do and there is no better app to use for them than Zoom. Take a peep at some of the calls I’ve been on (some not included).
Videos Edited: I have been editing at least 3 videos per week for my job, you can find on this channel, and I shot and filmed my first proper lacrosse stick trick video in nearly 10 years! I am hoping to get to many more of my personal videos if the quarantine is extended. Brewball, Max the Puppy, Road to Rado & Vlogs 22-24 to name a few.
I HAVE NOT been listening to Podcasts: Now that I don’t have a commute, I don’t really do podcasts anymore, but I’ve still listening to some here and there. Crime Junkie, Pardon My Take & KEXP Song of the Day are the ones I’ve been listening to most lately.
Okay well that was pretty much my first 30 days of quarantine because of the coronavirus. I leave you with this video of an empty Chicago that is not mine, but puts it in perspective for what the city is like right now.
Stay safe everyone, and wash your hands
Josh
