In Memory Of Izzy The Golden

Wow. July 6th of 2016 was a very tragic day. Our beloved dog and friend Izzy left us to be in a better place. She was only 9 years old, but graced us all with 9 years of fun, licks, barks, laughs, runs, rolls, humps, jumps, and more!

Josh and Izzy on the first day she came home in 2007

A dog who had a love for licking all of the sweat off of John and I. Who enjoyed all sorts of toys, but mainly her little cat stuffed animal and any sock that was found laying around. A dog who made running and exercising fun for us, as we chased her around the park. A dog who would always be looking to get in a game of catch, H-O-R-S-E, or soccer. Who often was fearless, taking on the UPS man, walking and running through snow and ice, & greeting anyone and anything that walked past. A pup who pushed her boundaries, one time running all the way across the street into my backyard to see what was going on. A dog who was never angry, never growled or seemed sad, and always brought a smile to everyone who was around her.

She was even a selling point for my girlfriend at the time, now wife Rachel, to come over and hangout with John and I. Rachel loves Golden Retrievers and loved to be with Izzy. One of my favorite things about Izzy was even though she was a Golden Retriever, I can't say I actually ever saw her retrieve anything. She would chase a ball or a toy, and then just put it in her mouth for a second, toss it into the air only to have it plop onto the ground, or even roll on top of it in a massaging sort of fashion. She would then smile and wag her tail at you, waiting for you to come get it and throw it again. Smart pup! For a time, Izzy would often get excited and hump her bed in the basement until nearly passing out. Or even crawl into bed with John at night and push him off eventually. She was there when we watched TV, played video games, had cookouts, or filmed movies. She was simply a joy to have around.

Izzy wasn't actually my family's dog, but she sure seemed it. She was my neighbor and best friend John's pup and had been since early 2007. Even though we were about to graduate high school and go on to college, it always will feel like she was a dog that we grew up with, in part because we were home every summer, and still visit our parents houses even after we moved out. Every single member of my family would go and pet Izzy almost every day when she was outside, and I know that random children and adults walking around the neighborhood would do the same.

I think the one of the hardest parts of all this and when it really hits me is when I look out the window across the street, or open the garage and Izzy is no longer laying in the yard, eating bushes, barking at the UPS man, or being pet by the neighborhood kids. Not living at home anymore takes me away from this most of the time, but when I am at my parents and I do those things, I then realize, she is gone.

Even though Izzy has left us on earth, I am honored and blessed to have been able to film so many videos of her and take so many photos. Now that I look back I wish I had done more! Below are all 10 videos I have made with the focus being our beautiful, lovely, amazing golden girl, Izzy.

Enjoy.

Above is a continuous playlist in chronological order of all 10 videos of Izzy. Below are the same 10 videos but separated for your viewing pleasure.

Watched all the videos? Check out some photos of Izzy that most people have never seen while listening to Go Do by Jonsi.

We love you Izzy. You will be missed, but will forever live on in our hearts.

First Birthday As a Married Man

July 1, 2016 - On this Friday, I took the day off and decided to head to the Will County Court office and get our Marriage License. Originally planned to get 10 of them, but the kind woman working told me that would be far too many. Ha! Rachel took the train to Naperville and that evening we drove out to the Ruffled Feathers Golf Course to attend our first wedding as a married couple. Jackie from Camp was getting married to Tyler and it was set to be a mathtastic wedding! It was a lovely night, the food was delicious, the friends were great, and the dancing was on point as the kids are saying these days. Solid first birthday as a married man! Congrats Jackie and Tyler!

Saturday July 2, We did a quick photo shoot at Rachel's parents house, and had some delicious burgers for lunch Rach's Dad cooked up. That night, Beth, Rachel, & I watched Jurassic Park 2 in our apartment. Vince Vaugn's breakout film if you didn't know.

We started the morning of Sunday July 3rd, by hitting up Stan's Donuts for the first time ever. I got some kaptain krunch donut, was a decadently filled treat. Beth and Rachel (and me a little) cooked up a pasta salad, coleslaw salad, and an all-american strawberry and blueberry cake for the party to be happening later in the day. We also ate some of that pasta salad and a bacon topped romaine lettuce food of sorts for lunch. After we had some grub we headed over to Sarah and Colin's new apartment downtown. They have a rooftop pool on floor like 30 which was amazing. I was the only brave soul to swim, but did so in elegant fashion. The party was hopping, with great drinks, snacks, food, and friends. Sarah made this amazing Jello watermelon vodka dessert. A tasty and fun way to enjoy the night. Check them photos.

On Monday July 4th, America! I celebrated by staying in the city and watching Jurassic World with Beth and Rachel. Afterwards we went and hung out with Mary and Jeff at the Fullerton grass/beach area all day, getting some sun and enjoying the view of the skyline. We then walked to a little place near the golf course close by to have some drinks/dinner. After stopping at Mary and Jeff's pad, and our place, we headed over to grassy area again to watch the Navy Pier fireworks with some more friends. They were a little underwhelming since they were so far away and the booms came long after the bright flashes of light, but it was still a solid show. We finished the night off like every night should be finished off in the city. At Frank's bar. Amazing place, everyone of the appropriate age should attend. Happy 4th of July everyone.

July 5th, Tuesday, After a days work I started Bloodline Season 2. Season 1 was top notch, pumped for season 2, although Squid tells me it is a little slower paced.

Wednesday July 6th, is a very sad day for a very sad reason. A star of many Jcubed videos, a dearest friend, and the best dog I've ever known, Izzy, past away suddenly. It was a shock to everyone as she had just turned 9, which is very young for a golden. See more about her in this special blog dedicated to her.

Thursday July 7 was a historic day for all my slither.io lovers. I made it to 3rd place in the game I was playing. Highest score I ever got and just 200 points shy of 2nd! Slither on my fellow snakes. This eve I stayed in Napes and went too dinner at Buffalo Wings and Rings with Beth in memory of Izzy.

July 8 a Friday, blessed us with another beautiful sunset, which is always a great site from our "balcony." We also jumped on that Pokemon Go life and caught some pokemon in our apartment. Not the best players since we only play in our place, ha. Rachel and I finished the night off with a game of Yahtzee! This is how we are spending our friday nights... are we married and old?

Saturday July 9th, Rachel was sweet enough to put together a fun little birthday party for me. It involved ping pong, beers, and friends. What a great combo! A new place downtown called SPiN is now one of my favorite places. It has tons of ping pong tables with a lot of space and endless balls. I felt like I was a pro ping pong player the way the balls just kept being supplied to me by these guys walking around with ball picker uppers. John, Melissa, Brian, Megan, Beth, and Grant joined Rachel and I for a night full of ping pong fun. Despite Brian winning our little tournament that we had, it was super fun and I gotta make sure I get back soon. After, we stopped at a Tiki Bar for one drink, it was pretty cool, but super crowded.

On Sunday July 10th, we were in the table tennis mood so we watched a documentary called Top Spin about some of the best players in the USA and their journey to try to make it to the Olympic games. After I drove Beth to the train that day, Rachel and I walked down the street to our local movie theater that we knew about but had never been to yet. We decided to check out the new film Secret Life of Pets. Pretty funny and cute animated film about what our pets do when we aren't home. I would rent it from the library if I was you.

Video of the Week: What's that? Another video of squid dancing around to JT? You got it.

Back to Reality... Unfortunately

Friday June 24th, 2016, Rachel and I returned from our glorious honeymoon after the most magnificent wedding. More to come in future (actually past) blogs about those two incredible events.  Our first visitor to welcome us home (besides my dad) was Izzy! Sadly this is the last photo I ever took of that beautiful pup (more about that event here). Feeling in the Hawaii mood still we decided to watch Jurassic Park that evening.

On the 25th of June, Saturday, we set out to visit Rachel's grandparents in Kankakee, enjoying spending time with gma and gpa, even having them sign our wedding board! That evening we spent at Rachel's parents and opened the rest (all) of our gifts from the wedding. Thanks everyone! Thank You Cards to come, I promise!

June 26th was a Sunday in which we swam in the pool at Rachel's parents house and had some chipotle for dinner back in the city. Gotta love getting those summer swims in.

Monday June 27th, back to the grind. After having nearly 3 weeks off work, we had to make the unfortunate return to reality. To put it bluntly, work sucks and vacation rules. That evening I uploaded photos from the wedding and honeymoon to the computer, although we did not have a chance to look through them, not even a tiny bit. McDonald's for dinner. Eat up ya'll.

Tuesday June 28th involved multiple episodes of the show Peaky Blinders on Netflix. Season 3 is going swell.

Wednesday June 29th, we had a little bit of home town cooking. Lou Malnati's pizza always tastes great, especially when you've been out of state for awhile and couple it with a lovely sunset with the love of your life. Perfect.

On Thursday June 30th I was able to finish the third season of Peaky Blinders. Woo! What a great show. Watch it on Netflix people. Can't wait for them to release future seasons.

Video of the Week: Squid entered multiple JT concerts over the weeks. Here is one of her vids. Go Squid Go! Don't worry, I'll post the others in blogs to come! Don't forget to check out her blog, or you are a terrible person!

TV Show of the Week: Peaky Blinders Season 3. Only 3 seasons, and all are on Netflix. Watch! PS: are those my the wedding Tuxes we wore??

These next blogs will be a bit out of order but I have about 10 of them lined up from over the past 2 months as well as the here and now. Get pumped.
