Well first off, I am way busier than expected, this blog is clearly over three weeks late, so it will entail the past three weeks of yaboys life.
Song of the Week: Double Play - The most popular song from The Weeks who I saw in concert, as well as a great song off of Dr. Dog's new album The Psychedelic Swamp.
The Weeks concert on Thursday 2/25/16. I made it to Lincoln Hall flying solo just as the opener was ending and made my way to stage left, about the third row. For some reason I always tend to go to the left side of stages whenever I go to shows. R. Kelly's I Believe I Can Fly played for about 4 minutes and then boys came out and took the stage, what an entrance! They opened up with The House That I Grew Up In, and I couldn't help but jumping up and down to the music. I had my audio recorder in my jacket pocket and was feeling the music so much that the recorder flew out and smashed the ground. It was gonna be a great show! Some highlights from the show include them jamming out on Mississippi Rain, playing some new hot songs, as well as their most famous song, Buttons. After the show, I met the guitarist and bassist individually. Told them that it was a killer show and they need to come back soon (please do boys). I picked up 2 of their albums and a sweet knit hat after the show. Top 4 show!? Stay tuned for some audio/video coming from the show and check out the pics below.
On Sunday 2/28/2016 Rachel and I headed over to hang with John and Melissa for Oscars Night. They were kind enough to cook up some blue cheese, cheddar, and bacon burgers. Rachel made a delicious salad as well. We had a little competition going on who would guess the most Oscars correctly as a couple. It was a heated match all night and came down to the final award. Rachel and Josh were up by 1 point and we had selected different answers for the film of the year. Spotlight took the cake and neither team had it, we reign supreme!
I had my first McDonald's of the year on March 3rd. It was delicious, but also hasn't been the last. I have hit it up probably at least 5 times in the past couple weeks. That's the life when you don't have time or cash! It also rained and then froze the other day, creating a blurry view for driving. Check it!
Lax tryouts and the first two weeks of lax are over. One of my players wore no sleeves all week, even in 0 degree weather and with snow on the ground. I picked up a rather large roster with the hopes that some young guns learn and develop quicker. I have enjoyed coaching these high schoolers of a higher level and it should be a great year of continued learning for all. One of the days of tryouts was covered with snow, otherwise the weather has been reasonable this year. Lax on.
Other notable events that have happened the past few weeks:
We had our cake tasting on 2/27. Rachel, Phil, Beth, & I headed to DeEtta's Bakery in Naperville and enjoyed making our own little cake samples. It was definitley different that I initially thought it would be, but we picked out some delicious combos! Get ready for some hometown cake at the wedding!
Did an Orange Theory Fitness trial class on 2/28 with Rachel. Pretty good circuit workout. The instructors were impressed with how fast I ran, but their little heart monitor didn't work well, so I only burned 200 calories :( Definitely would suggest for people who want a circuit workout planned for them that combines running/rowing/weight exercise.
I ran 5 miles with the team on 3/9 and finished in the middle of the pack, still got it! I have had two players bring me McChickens, the boys know how to make their coach happy.
Funjita night with my love! Rachel and I made some tasty fajitas while enjoying drinks and having fun!
Beth and I made some delicious Bison Burgers on Friday March 11 with broccoli and cauliflower. So tasty. Check out here blog here: Beth's Blog
Add in: John and I had some epic HORSE matches on his driveway on a warm sunny day
On Saturday March 12 we had a St Patrick's Day apartment crawl between 5 apartments. It was a great idea and really fun. Try it with your friends that live close by, staying only 2 or 3 hours at each place. Here is a photo of Rachel, Sarah, Colin and I from Tim and Torie's
Video of the week: Finally got around to finishing up the audio/video from the Vanessa Carlton show that Rachel and I attended back in November at City Winery. Enjoy
Movie of the Week: Focus with Will Smith - tales of a con artist or two. Pretty solid film.
TV Show: Family Guy Seasons 1 & 2. Decided to watch through and totally forgot the Kool-Aid man Oh no Oh no Oh yeaaaa bit was from the first episode. Classic Family Guy.
The Walking Dead is back and it is getting good, new scenery, new characters, check it out if you haven't been.
I wrote this whole blog and then I didn't save it, so this was the rewrite, kill me.
Hopefully I can get back on pace this week.
