Song of the Week: A Tribute to the first Lizard King, Jim Morrison.
On Tuesday June 2nd, 2015 I had an upset stomach all day which lead to many a poop. I ate some rice and salmon for dinner thanks to Rachel. We watched some Love it or List it and I edited some highlight videos.
Wednesday June 3rd, I headed over to Adam's place after practice to hang out with Brandy and Adam. We watched the Hawks pull out the win and chatted about the future. On my way home I picked up some cheap gas out in Plano again. Life is cheap out in the boonies. Oh, before all this I enjoyed 2 BK chicken sandwiches. Tasty.
Thursday June 4th, before practice I picked up some BK nuggets and fries. I had a practice then picked up a couple of frozen Za's for dinner. Rachel and I enjoyed the pizzas and watched some more Love it or List it while I edited more highlight videos for kids. I also finished the book Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell on the ride home. What an inspiring and interesting book. Success is a lot of hard work, but also some luck. Very interesting read, I highly recommend for all. John sent us a funny photo that day.
On Friday June 5th, I played in the annual FV Coach's vs Kids game. Afterwards I headed to the beaches of Napes and played some Volleyball at commissioners with Rachel, Brandy, Adam, John, and Squid like old times. Some randoms joined in on our game as the courts were packed and we were lucky enough Brandy and Rachel were brave enough to demand the courts after waiting 30 minutes or so. We also had some side beers quenching our thirst. We all went back to my parents afterwards and hung out snacking on some snacks and watching some TV while enjoying some conversation.
Saturday June 6th was my last day of coaching for the year. I shaved a fu manchu or a handlebar mustache as the kids called it. They told me to do it the day before and how could I resist? We didn't pull out the championship, but we played like champions, bowing out in the semi final. Very proud of my 8th grade laxers this year. Lax on gents, lax on. For dinner, I grilled up burgers and brats for the fam. We then watched the Blackhawks game through the window as we grilled and enjoyed brews. After the game Rachel, Beth, and I had a nice little bonfire going and enjoyed some more brewskies. Fun night.
On Sunday June 7th, Rachel and I picked up some BK whoppers for lunch (we have a lot of coupons expiring soon). I watched some lacrosse on TV before we headed over to my team party. The food was delicious, the kids swam in the pool and ran around as I talked to the parents about our successful year and the future. After enjoying the food and company, the kids then decided to do "paper plate" awards, where they give awards to everyone on the team. I think it is more of a girls lax thing, but I let them go with it. Coach Josh was called, "Most Likely To Hoard Lizards." What an award! It was then that I was blessed (cursed) with an inspiring story from a player on the team. A little back story, I had often spoke to the kids about how I love lizards and had some back in the day. I also may have told them to call me the Lizard King at one point. The story told by the kid that evening went a little like this, "Earlier this year coach Josh was at my house with me upstairs in my little brothers room and I took my lizard out and he was petting my lizard." It was pretty hilarious and everyone had a good laugh, especially since he was just excited to tell the story and had not intended it to come off as it did. It was very similar to the above scene in School of Rock. That night we headed back to the city and relaxed before catching some zZzs. Proof I had lizards, Wilson and Felix, as a child:
Monday June 8th, I left early to head into work, then worked for 12 hours before coming home. For dinner Rachel and I made some pasta with zucchini, squash, and Italian sausage, topped with balsamic vinegar and shredded cheese. Yum!
